The Sonoma County Folk Society and California Bluegrass Association team up once again to present a full day of music and workshops at the 20th annual Sonoma County Bluegrass & Folk Festival, scheduled Saturday, March 14th in Sebastopol. This year’s lineup includes return performances from the Kathy Kallick Band http://kathykallick.com/ and singer songwriter Rita Hosking https://www.ritahosking.com/.

Making a first appearance at the SCB&FF are Phil Salazar and the Kin Folk https://pskfband.com/ from Southern California and auto harpist extraordinaire, Bryan Bowers https://somagency.com/bryan-bowers/. Rounding out the performance will be East Bay Bluegrass band the Town Howlers, http://www.townhowlersbluegrass.com/,  Three Acre Holler (Sonoma County) https://www.reverbnation.com/3acreholler and, for a different twist, KAYZAK will provide music from the Andes. Workshops include Bill Amatneek on bass, Bryan Bowers and Carey Dubbert on autoharp, and KAYZAK conducting a workshop on the music from Bolivia.

This year’s festival will be held at the Analy High School Auditorium, 6940 Analy Ave. in Sebastopol.  Some of you may remember that we were forced to move to higher ground last year just days before the festival when the Sebastopol Community Cultural Center sustained terrible damage in the 2019 floods. Unfortunately, the SCCC is still going through restoration and we are fortunate that the High School Auditorium is available. Built in the 1930’s as a WPA project during the Franklin Roosevelt administration, it is one of the finest performance venues in Sonoma County.

Tickets will be available online on the CBA website beginning February 1st: www.cbaweb.org/Events/Tickets.  In Sonoma County, you can purchase tickets at Peoples Music in Sebastopol and The Last Record Store in Santa Rosa.  You can also purchase tickets by mail by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to SCB&FF, 3980 Monika Ct, Sebastopol, CA. 95472. Singer-songwriter Ian Tyson left us “old folkies” with some classic folk material. His popularity in the U.S. preceded that of such other Canadian folksingers as Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. If you’ve attended folk music jams, it’s likely you’ve joined...
